Carbon arrows at archery-shop.co.uk

Carbon arrows are suitable both for hobby use and, of course, even more so for competitions and hunting. Thanks to their reliable shape, carbon arrows guarantee an absolutely clean trajectory over a long period of time and therefore reliable accuracy. At archery-shop.co.uk you will find an overwhelming selection of carbon arrows from renowned manufacturers such as EASTON, BEARPAW, GOLDTIP, VICTORY ARCHERY and SPHERE.

On request, archery-shop.co.uk can provide you with your own customised hand-made complete arrow, e.g. the LithoSPHERE Black Custom, an absolute insider tip. The arrow length, the arrowhead in brass or steel, the type of nock and the fletching are freely selectable. Thanks to its outstanding quality and unbeatable value for money, this complete carbon arrow is the first choice of many shooters. SPHERE guarantees a high straightness of ±0.004 inches, which is otherwise reserved for more expensive shafts, and a weight tolerance of 0 grains within the purchased quantity for customised arrows. With a wide range of spin values of 300, 400, 500, 600, 800, 1000 and 1300, every shooter will find the right arrow for them.

Carbon arrows and their characteristics

Carbon has a number of excellent characteristics that make it the perfect material for making arrows. Its great advantage is its incredible stability.

The Spine value

A word about the Spine value: This determines the flexibility (deflection) of the arrow and is very important for the shot and hit pattern. The arrow's ability to bend depends on the power of the bow and the archer's shooting technique. Every archer needs their own individual arrow in terms of length, tip weight, fletching and spine value. If the spin value is high, e.g. 1,300, it is referred to as a soft arrow. A hard arrow has a low spin value, e.g. 300. A strong bow with a high draw weight requires a harder arrow (low spin value), while a light bow requires an arrow with a higher deflection value (high spin value). We will be happy to help you find the right bow for your bow and advise you.

High-tech for archery

The driving forces and foundations for today's modern archery can be found in the USA. Carbon fibre was developed there at the beginning of the 1980s as a shaft material for making arrows. And this innovation has revolutionised modern archery. The carbon arrow is the bestseller among all arrow materials because it offers decisive advantages:

  • extremely light
  • very fast
  • flat trajectory

Errors in distance estimation have less of an impact. The durability and precision of a carbon arrow and its excellent price-performance ratio are highly valued by sports archers and traditional archers also like to opt for a carbon arrow with a wooden design. Whether you are a beginner, a professional sportsman or a hunter, there is a suitable customised or ready-made carbon arrow for every area, which you will definitely find on this page!

Carbon arrows and their characteristics

Carbon has a number of excellent characteristics that make it the perfect material for making arrows. Its big advantage is its incredible stability: its straightness remains intact even after repeated shots, so it hardly bends at all, and it is also almost indestructible.

The advantages at a glance:

  • unrivalled straightness
  • Very low dead weight
  • achieves very high speeds
  • Extremely precise reproducibility thanks to machine production
  • Can be perfectly customised to the shooter thanks to individual spin value
  • Versatile selection of numerous models

Carbon - what is it actually?

Carbon is a carbon fibre-reinforced plastic, also known as carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP). Epoxy resin or other thermosets or thermoplastics form a plastic matrix that holds the carbon fibres together and fills the gaps between them. Even under load, the fibres remain in place thanks to the matrix and do not shift against each other. This unique combination results in a very light yet stiff material - perfect for archery.

The spin value

The spin value determines the flexibility (deflection capacity) of the arrow and is very important for the shot and hit pattern. The optimum deflection of the arrow depends on the power of the bow and the archer's shooting technique. Every archer needs their own individual arrow in terms of length, tip weight, fletching and spine value.

  • If the spin value is high, for example 1,300, this is referred to as a soft arrow.
  • A hard arrow has a low spin value, for example 300.

A strong bow with a high draw weight requires a harder arrow - i.e. a low spin value - while a light bow requires a soft arrow with a higher deflection value - i.e. a high spin value. We will be happy to help you find the right carbon arrow for your bow and advise you in detail.

Grain

Grain stands for the weight of the entire arrow. One gram corresponds to around 15.43 grains. Just like the spin value, the arrow weight is essential, because if your carbon arrows are too light, you will damage your bow. In the worst case, it can even break because a shot with an arrow that is too light looks like a blank shot. An arrow that is too heavy, on the other hand, will result in poor shots. Good to know: There are also many bow manufacturers whose warranty is voided if you don't use an appropriate grain.

So when you put together your carbon arrows, you should calculate the appropriate grain and choose a corresponding shaft with fletching, nock, tip and other additions to arrive at the weight. The draw weight in pounds (lbs or pounds) is the decisive factor. The grain is therefore usually given as gpp, i.e. grains per pound. The standard basis for calculation is a 28 inch Draw length. If you draw less or further, the draw weight in your hand applies.

  • Formula for calculating gpp: Total arrow weight in gn/draw weight in lbs = gpp
  • Example: 405 gn/43 lbs = 9.42 gpp

You can find out from us or the manufacturer of your bow in which range the gpp should be. For modern bows, 7-9 gpp is usually sufficient. The lower the value, the faster your carbon arrows will fly.

Inch

The inches are the length of the arrow - and this in turn depends on your Draw length, i.e. how far you pull out the string. The individual manufacturers in our shop offer their carbon arrows in various maximum lengths:

  • Carbon arrows 28 inches
  • Carbon arrows 30 inch
  • Carbon arrows 32 inches

A short carbon arrow is favoured by most shooters as it means less weight. However, it must not be so short that it slips off the arrow rest when pulled out. Slightly longer carbon arrows are therefore recommended for beginners, as they do not pull out the same distance with every shot. Of course, we are also happy to advise you on this topic!

To summarise: What you need to look out for when buying carbon arrows

Two important values that you absolutely need to know:

  • your draw length
  • the draw weight

These two pieces of information will get you a long way. Note the following:

  • the higher the draw weight, the lower the spine value
  • grains per pound (gpp) to match the draw weight
  • inches to match the draw length

Carbon fibre finished arrows in different variants

Complete arrows made from carbon fibre are particularly practical for beginners. You only need to take care of the correct values, which we have discussed in detail in the paragraph above (and we will of course be happy to help you with this), and you can get started straight away. Fletching, nock and a selection of tips are included. With some manufacturers, you can choose between

Carbon arrows with natural feathers and

carbon arrows with vanes or fletches.

The modern carbon arrows look great. Their iconic appearance often gives you an idea of the manufacturer. If you are a traditional shooter and don't like the often dark shafts with coloured accents, you still don't have to miss out on the advantages of this robust material. There are also carbon arrows with a wooden look that harmonise perfectly with your pretty traditional bow.
