Then you've come to the right place to choose your new riding bow from BogenSportWelt's wide range.

Origin and construction of horse bows

Regardless of whether they are of Hungarian or Asian origin, riding bows and the technique of archery originate from areas to the east of us, where shooting from horseback was common practice, especially among the Central Asian peoples such as the Mongols. This is also where the so-called composite bows were developed, including the horseback bows. Typical of these bows are the stiff limbs, known as siyas in Arabic, which act like levers. Thanks to this design, Asian horse bows could be made shorter and are therefore particularly suitable for archery from horseback. The horseback bows that you can order from BogenSportWelt are therefore also available in lengths from 48 to 54 inches. This means that there is the right horseback bow for archers of all sizes and different levels of experience. If you have already found the perfect bow made from the desired material with a matching look, you still need to determine the right draw weight. All of our bows can of course be ordered with a variety of draw weights.

What is an equestrian bow?
A riding bow, also known as a Mongolian bow or Asian riding bow, is a special type of bow traditionally used by horsemen in Asia and Hungary. This is also where the so-called composite bows were developed, which also include horse bows. Typical of this type of bow are the stiff limbs, known as siyas in Arabic, which act like levers. Thanks to this design, the Asian riding bows could be made shorter and are therefore particularly suitable for archery from horseback.
How does a rider's bow differ from other bows?
Rider bows have short, forward-curved limbs that enable a high draw force and fast arrow speed. As a rule, horse bows do not have a pronounced upper or lower side, but even with these variants you should decide on a stance in the long term. There are also symmetrical bows that can be shot by both left-handed and right-handed archers. The horse bows that you can order from BogenSportWelt are also available in lengths from 48 to 54 inches. This means that there is the right riding bow for archers of all sizes and different levels of experience.
What are the advantages of a horse bow?
Rider bows are known for their high draw power and accuracy. They are also lightweight and portable, making them ideal for riders. Their simple construction makes them robust and low maintenance. In addition, they are aesthetically pleasing and often have artistically designed limbs.
Are there special techniques for shooting with a horseback bow?
Shooting with a riding bow requires a special technique, as the archer is in constant motion while riding, which requires strong concentration when aiming. The timing of the shot is crucial. Only when all four hooves of the horse are in the air can the shot be released.
Are there special accessories for shooting with a horse bow?
With Korean horse bows, the thumb technique is very often used to draw and release the string. Due to their small size (approx. 50 inches) and their comparatively long draw (up to 31 inches), these bows have a very acute string angle, which makes normal draw almost impossible. With the thumb technique, the string is therefore pulled out and held with the thumb. To make this as comfortable as possible for the shooter, thumb rings made of horn have always been used. A thumb ring protects the thumb from contact with the string and therefore also from injury. A slight indentation on the actual ring also holds the string securely in position when the bow is drawn. Other useful archery accessories include a quiver, glove and arm guard.
